Alaska's Southcentral Foundation Reduces Vulnerability Scanning Time and Costs Using Rapid7's Nexpose
Non-Profit Healthcare Organization Selects Rapid7's Nexpose To Perform Own Vulnerability Assessments, Enjoys Ease and Convenience of Solution's Automatic and Customizable Capabilities
Boston, MA - June 13, 2006 - Rapid7 today announced that Southcentral Foundation (SCF), an Alaska Native healthcare corporation, has installed Nexpose, its enterprise vulnerability management solution. SCF selected Nexpose to conduct vulnerability assessment scans of the networks at its Anchorage headquarters. The organization was previously using an outside scanning service and decided it wanted the flexibility of performing its own scans. Nexpose made this transition simple.
"We've realized time and cost savings by doing the scanning ourselves with Nexpose," stated Takia Johnson, server engineer at Southcentral Foundation. "We can now perform network checks every month or as often as needed. Before, we would wait until the annual service came in and have to do a large amount of scanning to get caught up."
With the automatic and customizable capabilities it provides, Nexpose enhanced the self-scanning benefits realized by SCF.
"With Nexpose, it is easy to set up the vulnerability scans and the targeted network sites," stated Johnson. "Also, the reports on the scanning results are detailed and can be easily customized, although we found that the Nexpose report templates already covered all the information we need. In addition, Nexpose conducts automatic updates, checking for information on new vulnerabilities."
Nexpose performs these updates transparently on a scheduled basis, accessing the Rapid7 servers for the latest vulnerability information. Rapid7 issues important new vulnerabilities within 18 hours to provide near real-time automated alerting. Since new vulnerabilities are discovered at a rapid rate, Nexpose allows SCF to scan target systems incrementally, which reduces the scanning time as well as network bandwidth.
"Rapid7's Nexpose has enabled us to do our vulnerability assessment effortlessly," stated Johnson. "We can just set it up and it pretty much takes care of itself."
