Rapid7 and Sourcefire Integration Provides Powerful Contextual Network Data for More Effective Threat Analysis
Combining Rapid7 Security Intelligence with the Sourcefire 3D System Enables Comprehensive Alert Prioritization and Malicious Intent Assessments Across More Applications
Boston, MA and Columbia, MD - April 11, 2011 - Rapid7®, the leading provider of unified vulnerability management and penetration testing solutions and Sourcefire, Inc., the creator of Snort® and a leader in intelligent cybersecurity solutions, today announced a product integration designed to deliver increased threat protection to their customers. The Sourcefire 3D® System now seamlessly integrates active vulnerability data from Rapid7 Nexpose® Enterprise to enable efficient prioritization of alerts and assessment of malicious intent. As a result, organizations achieve more effective threat impact analysis, covering a wider range of vulnerabilities across more applications, and extending current technology investments for increased security.
"Rapid7 and Sourcefire are two of the world's premier technology and research organizations that are deeply invested in supporting the open source security community and providing commercial products that help organizations reduce security risks," said Mike Tuchen, president and CEO of Rapid7. "Our technologies have always been closely aligned and the integration of Sourcefire's intrusion prevention system and Rapid7's unified vulnerability management solution helps organizations focus on the threats with the greatest impact on an organization."
Through the integration, customers can achieve more effective impact analysis by leveraging vulnerability information acquired by both Rapid7's active scanning solution, Nexpose, and Sourcefire's awareness technologies. The collaboration effectively gives customers the best of both worlds: depth and breadth from active scanning, with always-on assessment from passive discovery and monitoring. The result is complete contextual end point and network data for more effective impact analysis.
"For organizations with large, complex IT environments, reducing false positives and prioritizing risks can significantly improve the overall security and health of a network," said Martin Roesch, CTO of Sourcefire. "With its rich vulnerability data, Rapid7 provides unparalleled risk intelligence to the Sourcefire 3D system. By leveraging the integrated Sourcefire and Rapid7 solutions, customers benefit from a faster and more cost-effective way to assess the impact of an attack and improve overall security posture across more applications."
Rapid7 solutions include the award-winning vulnerability management solution, Nexpose Enterprise and Metasploit® Pro for penetration testing. Through an integrated, intelligent, active scan engine, Rapid7 Nexpose identifies vulnerabilities across networks, operating systems, databases, Web applications and a wide-range of system platforms, and prioritizes vulnerabilities using exploit risk scoring and asset criticality ratings. Metasploit Pro emulates real-world attacks on the network in order to test for the ability to penetrate the vulnerabilities and launch an attack, greatly decreasing the time to test and increasing the efficiency in real threat detection. By understanding how hackers operate, Rapid7 Nexpose and Metasploit Pro reduce risk exposure and lower operational costs.
The Sourcefire 3D® System is the industry's first and only adaptive intrusion prevention solution. The 3D System uniquely identifies and responds to changes in network infrastructure. With a detailed understanding of the devices, applications, and services deployed on the network, and their potential vulnerabilities, the 3D System escalates warnings of meaningful attacks, while suppressing unimportant and irrelevant events—allowing security analysts to focus their time and attention on the attacks that represent a real threat.
