Virtualization technologies have driven a fundamental shift in IT organizations of all sizes. At Rapid7, our engineering and IT production environments are heavily virtualized, with thousands of virtual machines that we use for development, testing, and production. We're also seeing this trend with our customers, most of whom are in varying stages of adopting virtualization.
Virtualization is a game changer in many ways: server utilization, disaster recovery, and QA to name just a few. Virtualization also requires changing the way we think about security. Over the past six months, we've been discussing this question with our customers, partners, and experts, thinking about how vulnerability management changes in a virtualized environment.
VMware is the de facto standard in data center virtualization technology, so we've been working closely with VMware on security. This week, I'm at VMworld where we're showing a preview of some of the stuff we've been working on. Yesterday, Jim Wiese from the Office of the CTO presented a reference architecture on securing a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, featuring Nexpose as a key component. We've been working with Jim and the VMware team on building and defining this reference architecture, so we're excited to show this to the world.
