I am a member of the product management team at Rapid7, and I am responsible for the user experience across all our products. One of my ongoing efforts is to bring our product development team closer to our users. In the upcoming release of Nexpose, we have updated the user interface to make it simpler and more consistent with Metasploit so that your experience can be more productive and seamless. As the entire team at Rapid7 is working hard to get Nexpose 5.0 out of the door, I thought I'd take a minute to tell you more about the UI improvements and what it means to you.
Cleaner, Simpler Look
Nexpose 5.0 is updated with latest web usability standards and improved cross-browser support. It has a new, modernized look with a soothing color scheme and strong brand consistency.
Speed And Efficiency
We want you to get the information you need quickly, with minimal effort and distraction. Here are some improvements in this area:
One-Stop Notification:
This is now one easy- to-find location where you can look into any important issues that needs your attention. For example, in the screenshot below, there is a warning that one or more vConnections (connection with a vCenter) is inactive. In our future releases, we do plan to expand our notification capabilities.
Better User Assistance:
Through out the product, three distinct types of inline messages are introduced: Information, Warning and Alert. This will assist you in making better decisions. Tooltip support has been also improved.
UI Scalability:
As we add more features in the product, the UI must support scalability and, at the same time, provide a seamless experience that minimizes distraction. We have added collapsible sections and tabbed dialog boxes.
More Control:
You have much more control over customization. For example, you can choose not only which risk strategy to implement, but also whether to recalculate your risk with a different risk strategy. Also you can add valuable risk trend graphs to reports.
We've taken your feedback to heart and incorporated a lot of your ideas into this release. In future releases of Nexpose, we will continue to add more features and improvements, for which we will continue to seek your input. Please comment with any ideas or features that you you'd like to see.
We are also looking for participants for our user feedback program to help us define requirements for our future releases. If you would like to participate, please let us know, and we would love to talk to you.
