On January 23, I had the opportunity to travel to sunny Southern California to attend “Security at the Crossroads”, a half-day seminar presented by Rapid7 and designed to help security practitioners prepare for today's and tomorrow's threat landscape.  The program featured an impressive collection of compelling speakers, from industry analysts to seasoned white hat hackers.  As the product manager for Rapid7 ControlsInsight, I was particularly excited to hear from Chad Currier, who was featured in a session entitled “Gaining Command and Insight Into Your Security Controls”. Chad is the IT Infrastructure Director for Cardinal Innovations Healthcare Solutions and has been using ControlsInsight in his organization since the product was first launched last year.

During his session, Chad shared a wealth of practical examples from his experience managing security programs in the dynamic and challenging health care industry.  He noted that adding ControlsInsight to his toolkit has helped him to be more proactive in his approach and to more effectively communicate the importance of security controls across his organization. Specifically, ControlsInsight helps him to:

  • Pinpoint which controls have the most impact on the overall security posture of the organization, and then helps to ensure that those controls are implemented properly.
  • Produce easy to understand metrics, which simplifies reporting the status and progress of security initiatives to executives.
  • Provide clear, concise guidance that helps to bridge the gap between security best practices and IT operations.

You can hear more about how information security leaders like Chad are mitigating risk in a constantly evolving threat landscape at the final two “Security at the Crossroads” seminars in Washington D.C. on February 11 and Phoenix on February 13. Admission is free, but pre-registration is required.  I hope to see you there!
