You can now send and process logs without ANY configuration! And thus, signing up and playing with your logs has never been easier. Now 100% of our users that sign-up automatically send data, within seconds, and get to see real log data immediately without having to configure a single server.

‘How??’ I hear you ask…?

Well, one of our engineers came up with a clever idea, that we like to call auto-logging. It takes advantage of our javascript library which we have hooked up to every user account to generate log data as you use the Logentries service, and best of all, it routes that log data directly into your Logentries account so you can track all your user actions, at an individual and at a summary level,  as you play with your newly created account.

Now, when you set-up your new account you will see a host called ‘DemoHost’ that contains your automated log which tracks all your actions. We have preconfigured tags for specific events – so for example, when you click our Live Tail button you will see a new event streaming into your account in real time that reads as follows:

» 21:39:46.453 75.69.148.175/c-75-69-148-175.hsd1.ma.comcast.net smu6bzmi INFO User=’trevparsons+JSlogtest4@gmail.c’ Account=c2441151 clicked=’LiveTail ‘ id=btn_live_tail

This is what that looks like – you’ll notice the last event is tagged as Live Tail Clicked:

You can actually watch your actions generate log events that stream into your Logentries account as they are happening, in real-time. It’s almost like an infinite loop …. but pretty cool right? I just wish I had come up with the idea!!!

We have also created some nice log graphs for you to play with – simply click on the ‘Graphs’ tab within your log view. Log graphs are based off our tags so they will give you a breakdown of the different events that you have been generating and ultimately a high level breakdown of the different features you have been using within your account. The graph shows a chart of the different screens I have visited within my account, showing I have viewed my log graphs 12 times for example.

We created our auto-log to show how easy it is to start to track your own user actions within your own application. And, as you track your users within your product or service, you can see where people are spending the time, running into performance problems, and selecting specific actions.  Install one of our client libraries and you can immediately view in real time how users are using your system. For some tips on best practices that can be applied if you want to start tracking your users check out our new ‘Best Practices’ section in our docs.
