Logentries new Aggregated Live Tail provides effortless, real-time visibility that you cannot get anywhere else…and is a joy to use (and I cant say the same about carrying a cat by its tail – for so many reasons).
For those of you not familiar with our existing Live Tail view, Aggregated Live Tail is a simple, elegant and powerful product enhancement that enables you to now select and monitor multiple live logs streaming into Logentries. All events are visible in real-time in a combined view of your log events as they happen. This allows users to monitor multiple streams of data, from across multiple sources, in live mode!
What makes this even more powerful is the ability to filter the live incoming events to only display the ones you want, and finally be able to filter out the noise.
Some important ways customers are using Aggregated Live Tail
An example we’ve heard from many users about Aggregated Live Tail is for monitoring an application from a single user’s point of view in real time.
Imagine you have a user who is reporting issues with your service, but you can’t seem to pinpoint the issue. It seems to be related specifically to him/her because no other users are reporting the same issue.
By simply enabling Aggregated Live Tail on all the logs that your user will contribute to, and then filtering with a unique user ID within the logs, you can see only the events related to that user, in real-time. By asking him or her to perform specific tasks, you can test and analyze in real-time as those events traverse your stack.
This gives you amazing insight into what’s happening within your application from both the user and application point of view.
Once you identify an issue you can then go back and search your historical logs for related issues — all within seconds.
The Live Tail view gives you the ability to quickly identify issues on your live servers in real-time and then quickly search through your historical logs for the issue you have identified. There are many other use cases and we believe that the simplicity of this new feature can be applied across Ops and Dev monitoring, troubleshooting and performance management. And remember – leave those cats alone!
