Hello! I'm Dan Kuykendall. Since I'm new to the Rapid7 family, I thought I'd take a moment to introduce myself with 7 factoids about me:
-
I'm not a geek, or a nerd—but a neek: Some people might think of me as a nerd, but I proudly prefer to think of myself as part geek and part nerd, so maybe I'm a neek. For all of you doubters out there, there is a difference - learn more about the differences between nerds and geeks with this awesome Infographic. Fellow neeks, I know you know what I'm talking about! Does anyone have an infographics about NEEKS?
-
I'm a Fantasy Football fan: I absolutely love Fantasy Football and the NFL (poor Niners). Neeks do like football afterall. So much so, that I started the very popular and competitive Hackers Fantasy Football League, with its very own acronym HOFFL. You can read more about that here.
-
I'm also an MMA fan: While I love football, my fave sport is actually Mixed Martial Arts. This one time at a security conference (like band camp), I ran into (well actually, sort of stalked) the fighters of UFC 166 in the lobby!
-
I'm California Dreamin': I'm a California guy. Don't really like to go anywhere below about 55 degrees, except maybe the Rapid7 office in Boston Now that I'm part of Rapid7, it might finally be time to buy a winter coat.
-
AppSec is a big part of my life: I have been working - and playing - in Application Security for close to half of my life. I love all things related to application security and believe strongly in finding ways to automate application security testing as far as it can go.
-
I'm fascinated by MITM: So, back to the neek thing. I dig this application security stuff so much, that for research, I have been known to test various man in the middle setups at the local mall. Watch out Californians! But seriously, I don't actually attack anything of course (even though I sure do see a lot), just test the different ways to sniff traffic.
-
I'm big into podcasting: I created one of the first Web Security podcasts, helped Apple add podcasting to iTunes, and was the original developer of podPress. I am all about automating things as much as possible from podcasting, to home entertainment to application security scanning (check out our AppSpider products that reflect this work). Yup, it's true! I'm a neek through and through.
If you're looking for a bit more information about what I'm doing around here at Rapid7, please review my previous post, NT OBJECTives acquired by Rapid7 and the press release announcing the acquisition (woot woot)! And if you're coming to the UNITED Security Summit in June, I'll be there too and it'd be great to meet you and show you what AppSpider can do.
I look forward to getting to know you and connect with you!
