The Opportunity

We believe that understanding the attacker mindset is critical for security teams to effectively defend their organization against threats and ultimately, build a safer world. That's why we're committed to collaborating with the cybersecurity community to further this understanding, from the Metasploit Project to our own security research projects. Now we need a product leader to bring this concept to life for our customers of Rapid7's endpoint solutions. 

Technical Product Managers are a key member of the product management team, collaborating with a team of like-minded individuals around the globe: customers, marketing, sales, solutions, services, technical support and engineers are your close colleagues. 

Technical Product Managers are responsible for formulation, delivery, and communication of technology solutions to underserved security organizations. You will identify customer problems, seek market opportunities, and work closely with the engineering teams, aligning work with customers needs. You'll arrange demos of new features, and necessary content to enable our customers' teams.

It's a heavy lift, but you won't be alone. We have assembled a diverse, world-class product management team, composed of recovering engineers, serial entrepreneurs and experienced savants to make this a reality. What you should have

  • Strong technical background: B.S. or higher in computer science, engineering, or related discipline. You are not a coder, but you'll be working with people that know how computers and data work all the way down to the physical level, and you'll be designing and delivering technical solutions for technical customers.

  • Storytelling chops: Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must! You will be able to tell a story, for business and technical audiences to influence and create alignment.

  • Technology fluency: You can explain the value and limitations of our technology to an equally passionate, security savvy audience. You understand how problems and solutions exist at all levels of the tech stack e.g. hardware, firmware, networking, operating systems, applications. You don't have to be a Ghidra user, but you know what its for and how to learn more. You are fluent in products, technologies, services and brands that enterprises rely on every day. 

  • Demonstrated experience: Working in an agile development environment.

Helpful traits

  • Experience in product management, product owner, or business/requirements analyst role

  • Experience in producing wireframes / mock-ups to demonstrate user and data flows and screens

  • Demonstrated experience in customer interactions

  • Strong understanding of the security market

  • Certified Scrum Master, Certified Scrum Product Owner

  • Own customer problems: Develop, maintain and demonstrate a strong understanding of security customer needs, the problems that result from unmet needs. 

  • Mind the gap: We collaborate constantly. When things fall through the cracks, we don't assume others will help, we take action. 

  • Be a guide: Help the team deliver capabilities that satisfy customer needs. You'll also act as an internal and external advocate and spokesperson for our understanding of the attacker mindset and how our solutions deliver value.

You will work directly with Engineering, UX and Product Managers of industry leading solutions for vulnerability management (InsightVM), penetration testing (Metasploit), detection and response (InsightIDR), security automation (InsightConnect), application security (InsightAppsec) and more.  

  • Support system: You will be a core member of a tight-knit, interdisciplinary team. Assistance is always provided to those who ask!
