Rapid7's Platform Practice is looking for an accomplished UX Researcher to help our UX team evolve our growing user research discipline.

In this role, you'll have the opportunity to:

A Snapshot of the Work:

As a UX Researcher, your major areas of focus will be:

  • Research strategy, planning, and execution: Identify research opportunities, design and execute well-crafted research plans with clear objectives, deliver research insights, and facilitate the implementation of actionional recommendations based on those insights

  • Data collection and analysis: Moderate usability sessions, develop and implement quantitative surveys, facilitate concept evaluation in collaboration with our design team, conduct stakeholder and user interviews, manage product analytics and extract user behaviors, and manage our design advisory board

  • Cross-functional collaboration: You'll collaborate with geographically distributed teams across the Platform practice and with internal and external research teams to unite stakeholders around understanding the complexities of our users' needs portfolio-wide, and to ensure experiences across our products and services are customer-centric.

  • Evangelism and advocacy: You'll be an evangelist and spokesperson for our users, and advocate for a customer-first mindset. You'll continuously champion and advance the effectiveness of user research within the Platform practice

  • Subject matter expertise: You'll work within a customer-centric, outcomes-focused security practice and build a deep understanding of the security user and their challenges

You will also work hand-in-hand with:

  • Product managers and UX designers to coordinate, manage, and run research studies that define user behaviors and needs, evaluate effectiveness of our solutions, and measure customer achievement.

  • Customer researchers to ensure our user research strategy is aligned with our broader customer research strategy. You'll coordinate insights and action across teams to ensure we have the best view of our customers and users.

  • UX writers to evaluate effectiveness of content and learning experiences within our products, services, our help documentation.

  • Software engineers on research-derived insights that demonstrate the user need as it pertains to design intent and solution implementation.

  • External research vendors as needed to support usability research


  • Are skilled with user research methods, and know when and how to apply them. This includes user interviews, contextual inquiry, surveys, heuristic evaluations, card sorting, task analysis, usability testing, and more. You know the right method for the job, and can balance the level of rigor appropriate for the need at hand.

  • Analyze and synthesize research findings into compelling insights that are actionable. You're confident in your presentation skills, both verbal and written, and can deliver succinct recommendations to your stakeholders.

  • Are unafraid of ambiguity. You push forward and lead your stakeholders through unclear directions, and not only drive defining that direction via research insights, but you also help to build up this skill in the UX team you're working with.

  • Embody a “growth” mindset and value collaboration over ego. You demonstrate the “we” attitude, and you have the tenacity, humour, and people skills to collaborate with a wide variety of team members. 

  • Show strong autonomy, accountability, communication, and time management. You have excellent time management skills, and hold yourself and those you work with accountable to commitments.

  • Are an empathetic critical thinker able to listen, observe, and ask the right kinds of questions

Additional Details

  • We are looking for a candidate that roughly has 3 years of relevant experience; this includes holding roles in UX research, customer researcher, applied research, and a B.S. in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Interaction Design, Cognitive Psychology, Cognitive Science, or equivalent experience. Ultimately, we're looking for experience integrating user research into product strategy.

  • We don't require security experience. It's a “nice to have,” but ultimately we're looking for someone with great UX instincts that can observe and identify user behaviors across our customer base, and synthesize these complexities into actionable insights that drive effective solutions. We know there will be a ramp-up period, and will support your journey into this exciting field! 

  • We need someone that can travel occasionally, both domestically and internationally (of course, once it's safe to do so). Rapid7 has 7 offices with team members present across North America and Europe. You'll work directly with team members in Austin, TX; Belfast; Boston, MA; Los Angeles, CA; and Toronto.
