Role Overview

Rapid7 is seeking a talented Software Engineering placement student to join our R&D team in Galway. The R&D team is responsible for designing and developing the Insight platform network sensor. This software analyses network traffic to give Rapid7 customers a unique level of visibility including user activity, file and database monitoring, security, intrusion detection, bandwidth usage, and Internet access.
From day one you will work closely with engineers across a number of disciplines and in other locations across the globe. You may be working on a number of projects at the same time, or just one. Our projects range from quick developments where tight timescales apply (a few weeks) to full scale developments (up to 1 year).

As an intern at Rapid7 you will:

  • Work closely with engineers to help research, design, develop and test our software systems
  • Assist with projects from end to end; requirements capture & analysis, design & coding, testing, deployment and support
  • Help to interpret and analyse requirements
  • Be a part of product implementation, from software development to written technical specifications and coding standards
  • Assist with testing software; finding and fixing faults
  • Participate in reviews during software lifecycle

Successful candidates will be:

  • Currently enrolled in a BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related discipline
  • Interested in Network Security, Intrusion Detection, Network Traffic Analysis, Cloud or AWS
  • Experience with UNIX, Linux and associated tools
  • Exposure to software such as C & Python
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP and network infrastructure is a plus
