SECURE ADVANCEMENT FOR ALL - This is the central guiding principle for each member of the Rapid7 team: “What more can we do to help all of us live in a more secure world?” With new technologies and environments seeming to emerge every day, keeping our networks secure has become more challenging, and more critical, than ever before.  As Manager of the Managed Services Engineering team, you'll be a hands-on participant leading a smart, passionate team dedicated to this mission.

What You'll Be Leading

Our Managed Services Engineering team is responsible for developing and maintaining the applications, tools,  and services the service delivery teams use for our Managed Detection & Response, Vulnerability Management, Application Security, and Incident Response.

Our applications are built using an agile software development approach with an emphasis on implementing DevOps best practices.  Cloud infrastructure is built on AWS using many of its popular services such as ECS, API Gateway, Load Balancing, EC2, SQS, SNS, Event Bridge, IAM, RDS, etc, with the architecture provisioned and updated using Terraform.  Application and service back-ends are primarily written in Python (Django, Django Rest Framework, Flask) with front-ends learning heavily on Javascript ES6 and React.  Other technologies include but are not limited to:

  • Linux System Administration (Handbook)

  • PHP

  • Postgres / MySQL

  • Docker

  • Jenkins / Github Actions for  CI/CD

  • Git & Github

Putting the formality aside, you will be leading a team of mission-driven engineers who have a passion for enabling and partnering with world class operations teams.  This group does not back down from a challenge, and it is laser focused on our customers (both internal and external)  This is not a place to sling line after line of code in a windowless room with no exposure to what that code actually does.  It is a place to build and maintain tools that enhance peace of mind for customers throughout the world.

What You Should Bring:

  • A demonstrable passion for the craft of full-stack software development through DevOps

  • Ability to wrangle a herd of end-users desperate for their bugs to be fixed and features to be implemented, all while continuing to add new customers at a breakneck pace

  • Interest in keeping your hands-on programming chops sharp as you learn and contribute to the architecture of the system

  • A history demonstrating a team-based approach to problem solving

  • A dynamic sense of ownership and responsibility for the quality of the software you create

  • At least 5-8 years of experience in software development

  • At least 1-3 years of team lead experience with successes you can describe, leading your team through full life cycle software development

  • Experience or interest in taking on a team of engineers as direct reports, serving as their mentor and guiding them in their own career development

  • Passion to collaborate with our wider teams (e.g. product, UX, support) to think strategically about how to solve problems for our users

  • Empathy for our users and the Rapid7 mission

An added bonus if you have:

  • Interest and/or experience in the security industry

  • Interest and/or experience in cloud-based architecture

  • We value diversity in our team and we are eager to accept applications for our engineers across all backgrounds and life experiences.
