The Opportunity

Rapid7's Assessment and Response  practice is seeking a Director of Engineering to oversee the development of the core capabilities that are the foundation of our Vulnerability Management product. We are looking for a technology leader with a proven track record of growing and developing high-performing engineering teams, with a focus on operational excellence, resiliency and quality. This role puts you in the driver's seat to work directly with customers to ensure that their experience using InsightVM is driving impact in their security programs, working closely with stakeholders across the business to drive engineering strategy and execution in alignment with this mission.

The role:

In this role, you will lead an engineering team responsible for our InsightVM product, supporting thousands of customers in their journey to close the security achievement gap. You will not only shape the product from an architectural standpoint to ensure that we are delivering our best for our customers, but will also foster an organizational culture of collaboration and leadership growth. 

In this role, you will:

  • Set the bar for operational excellence in engineering, driving resilience, performance, and quality initiatives across the organization
  • Partner closely with Product Management, UX, and other stakeholders to establish strategy and roadmap commitments
  • Develop and maintain technical strategy and establish execution plans to achieve roadmap goals, driving high-fidelity commitments and standards for delivery
  • Grow and develop both technical and leadership skills across the organization to create a thriving culture for both individual contributors and team success
  • Invest in developing the current and future stars of the engineering organization as the company and team continue to scale 
  • Engage directly with customers to incorporate their feedback and remove points of friction from their product experience
  • Ensure scalable development, testing and deployment processes to maintain and improve product reliability, scalability and performance
  • Collaborate with support teams and cross-functional teams to ensure that customers have a seamless experience when they need help with our products

Qualifications and traits:

  • Technical Expertise: Proven track record to build, deliver, and run complex enterprise-class software at scale
  • Organizational Leadership: Experience growing and developing a diverse, distributed, thriving team of leaders, developers and engineers 
  • Collaboration: Ability to engage closely with customers, and to influence cross-functional product management, support, strategy and other areas to ensure alignment on the priorities of the engineering team to promote customer success
  • Results Oriented: Proven history of leading and managing engineering teams to build and ship high quality products/platforms in fast-paced, continuous deployment environment  
  • Strategic Orientation: Solid facility with following and synthesizing strategic trends in your industry, and dynamically setting course as required to ensure that engineering enables the company to respond to those trends and the resulting customer needs

  • 10+ years of development/engineering leadership experience at scale
  • Track record of retaining, developing, motivating and mentoring highly effective teams
  • Ability to run world-class software development processes and practices 
  • Proven ability to drive product resiliency, delivery execution, and operational excellence
