Description

The Microsoft SQL Server Agent daemon runs under heightened privileges (usually SYSTEM), and is designed to accept job requests from other SQL entities. Microsoft SQL Server 7 and 2000 allow jobs to be submitted that run under the privilege context of the Agent and thus execute any system command using 'xp_cmdshell'.
