Description

The Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Agent is responsible for executing scheduled jobs. A job is supposed to run with the privilige level of the user that created the job, but they run instead with the priviliges of the SQL Server Agent. This allows any authenticated SQL Server user to create a job that creates or overwrites arbitrary files on the server. An executable file could be created in the Administrator's startup folder so that the program would be automatically run when the Administrator logs in. An attacker could simply overwrite important system files with random data and disrupt or disable the system.
