Description

Certain versions of Wireshark may crash when a purposefully malformed GSM SMS, PANA, KISMET, RTMPT, RMI, or SS7 MSU packet is injected onto the wire or when a malformed packet trace file is read.

Note that the WNPA-SEC-2008-03 advisory contradicts itself by stating that Wireshark 1.0.0 is affected and that "Wireshark 1.0.0 fixes the vulnerabilities". The vulnerabilities are actually fixed in 1.0.1.

Solution(s)

  • wireshark-upgrade-1_0_1

With Rapid7 live dashboards, I have a clear view of all the assets on my network, which ones can be exploited, and what I need to do in order to reduce the risk in my environment in real-time. No other tool gives us that kind of value and insight.
