The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) requires financial institutions to protect customer information. Under GLBA, several regulators have issued rules and guidelines requiring a broad range of financial institutions to have a comprehensive security program and other security safeguards. Penalties for noncompliance may include civil fines, injunctions, disgorgement of profits, and/or revocation of licenses.
