Weathering the Storm: The Art of Crisis Communications

1:30-2pm PT, Sunday, February 12

How do you react during a crisis? Working in security, the unfortunate reality is that you’ll likely find out the answer to that question at some point. Dealing with high-pressure situations is part of the job; however, how you communicate through the process can greatly influence the outcomes, and may determine just how stressful the experience ends up being. This session will walk through the basics of crisis management, with a strong emphasis on the communications pieces – both internal with core stakeholders, and external with the community and customers. We will talk through strategies you can apply in your organization to prepare for crisis situations and ensure you are better able to weather the storm.

Security through Visibility

11:30am PT, Sunday, February 12

Information security culture rules. We’re quirky. A lot of us are social misfits. We speak our own language(s). For some reason, a lot of us are really into beards and whisky. But unfortunately, some of the things that make our culture great also work against us from an organizational security perspective. It can be all too easy for us to retreat into our little IS/IT bubble. And let’s admit it… sometimes we can be a little condescending to n00bs. When we aren’t visible to the rest of the organization, or employees simply don’t feel comfortable coming to us to ask questions or report suspicious activity, we’re real in trouble. So, how can we increase trust and communication between the security team and the rest of the organization?
