Hacktoberfest 2020 is happening

Metasploit is proud to announce that we're participating in Hacktoberfest 2020. Presented by DigitalOcean, Intel, and DEV, Hacktoberfest is an annual celebration of open-source software during the month of October. The first 70,000 participants to submit 4 pull requests between October 1 and October 31, 2020, will be eligible for a limited edition T-shirt or have the opportunity to plant a tree. You must sign up on the official Hacktober website for your pull requests to count. See the participation details for more information.

We welcome all contributions to the Metasploit project, especially from newcomers. Visit our GitHub Wiki page for details on how to start contributing to Metasploit today.

A bonus Metasploit CTF just around the corner

We hosted our 3rd Annual(ish) Metasploit CTF back in January of this year. All 1,000 slots were booked within days of announcing the competition. Because of the resounding success, we'll be hosting the 4th Annual(ish) Metasploit CTF by year’s end. Keep an eye out for an announcement with more details in the next few weeks.

Overheard in the Metasploit office this week

An attitude of gratitude...

"Ah, that'll be something to fix later, then. Thanks for braving this rabbit hole!"

Document accuracy - same as it ever was...

"I... I am terrified to know how spectacularly out-of-date this is... but back when you had to worry about T-Rexes on your lunchbreak, I wrote this..."

When that eureka moment comes mid-thought

"I mean I made changes to the query code when pulling from the DB... Oh snap! I know what's wrong."

Bugs fixed

  • PR 14235 from 0x44434241 fixes post/windows/gather/smart_hashdump from skipping RID 1001 hash dump.

Get it

As always, you can update to the latest Metasploit Framework with msfupdate and you can get more details on the changes since the last blog post from GitHub:

If you are a git user, you can clone the Metasploit Framework repo (master branch) for the latest. To install fresh without using git, you can use the open-source-only Nightly Installers or the binary installers (which also include the commercial edition).
