This module exploits a stack buffer overflow in the Windows Media Unicast Service version 126.96.36.19930 (NUMS.exe). By sending a specially crafted FunnelConnect request, an attacker can execute arbitrary code under the "NetShowServices" user account. Windows Media Services 4.1 ships with Windows 2000 Server, but is not installed by default. NOTE: This service does NOT restart automatically. Successful, as well as unsuccessful exploitation attempts will kill the service which prevents additional attempts.
To display the available options, load the module within the Metasploit console and run the commands 'show options' or 'show advanced':
Time is precious, so I don’t want to do something manually that I can automate. Leveraging the Metasploit Framework when automating any task keeps us from having to re-create the wheel as we can use the existing libraries and focus our efforts where it matters.
