The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) provides a mechanism for monitoring systems (managers) to send messages to other systems (agents). These are known as request messages. They are often used to interrogate the status of the device. They can also be used to configure the device. By sending improperly encoded request messages, various SNMP agent implementations can be exploited. This may include denial of service and buffer overflow attacks.
With Rapid7 live dashboards, I have a clear view of all the assets on my network, which ones can be exploited, and what I need to do in order to reduce the risk in my environment in real-time. No other tool gives us that kind of value and insight.
