Description

Microsoft SQL Server does not properly check certain malformed SELECT statements, allowing malicious users to gain privileges.

Microsoft claims that only MS SQL 7.0 is vulnerable to this exploit, however, research performed by third party vendors seems to suggest that MS SQL 2000 is also vulnerable.

To exploit this vulnerability, the user must first logon to the SQL server. This requires knowledge of a valid user id and password. Once logged on, the malicious user can execute arbitrary commands with the privileges of the account used by the SQL server.
